She is also a member of the Djembabes, a popular local women's performance group devoted to African song and rhythms. Patricia is passionate about West African drum and dance and decided that 2011 was the year to branch out on her own in order to share her passion for this art form that has brought her so much pleasure over the years. | An integrative class incorporating yoga, fitness and dance conditioning elements to tone and strengthen the core while building lean muscles and improving overall flexibility. Monday 7:15 PM | | Dancing Together* (2.5 hrs) | Leave your shoes off and free your spirit; join the family of dancers known as Dancing Together. Two evenings each week and one morning per week, the group meets for 2 hours of creative dance. While dancing "together" in unison and surrounded by other dancers, each dancer creates his or her own style. Whether you choose to dance with a partner or alone, the music moves the spirit into creating a dance step unique to each individual. After a warmup of 30-45 minutes, an opening circle is formed to allow the Guides to welcome and orient the dancers. The Guide may tell a story or create ideas for the listeners to consider during their dance. Then comes the dance in the form of a wave. The beginning is slow and easy, soon building to a fast pace, eventually ending in a softening to relaxation. This class will consist of focused, traditional exercise. Students will work on proper alignment and posture, positions of the feet and arms, jump and turn preparation, rhythm and musicality. Class will follow a classic Ballet class format: warmup, Barre work, stretches, center and across-the-floor exercises, choreography and Reverence. | Ballet for All Ages is a fun way to learn ballet basics, no matter your age. This is a class for beginning ballet students ages 8 through adult. Students will learn the fundamentals of body placement, along with the turnout of the legs, which is required for ballet. Turnout refers to the dancer's ability to complete movements with the legs rotated outward. No prior experience is needed and the French terminology of ballet will be explained. The class will follow a traditional structure of barre work, center work, jumps, and traveling across the floor. Students will develop precise footwork, graceful port de bras (carriage of the arms), and the correct positions and lines of ballet. Ballet attire is optional. Saturday 11:00 AM New Time!
| | Break Dance (ages 8-12) - Eddejay | It's fun, athletic and on the floor! B-Boying, B-Girlin' (break dancing) has emerged as a universal language that everyone wants to speak. This original dance form thrives off Hip Hop, Funk and Soul music. In this class, students will learn the foundations of the dance and history to stay fresh. Tuesday 6:15 PM | | Hip Hop - Eddejay, Chantell | | The focus of this class is fun! Class starts with a warmup designed to strengthen and stretch dancers while working on basic hip hop movements. Students will gain body awareness, rhythmic precision and musicality through choreographed routines.

While it may take new dancers a couple of weeks to get used to it, students must be able to stay in the classroom for the full 45 minutes. This class utilizes songs and games to introduce the fundamentals of ballet. Students also exercise coordination skills, learn classroom etiquette and practice rhythm and musicality. Steps will include ballet basics such as pliè, relevè, passè, piquè, arabesque, 1st and 2nd positions, hopping, skipping, galloping and walking on tip toes. Students must be in ballet clothing and wear ballet shoes. Parents can watch classes through observation windows. Saturday 10:00 AM | Pre-K Dance & Play (ages 2-6) (on hold)
| | Children will love practicing basic movement skills in this hour-long class. Students will work on jumping, balancing, rolling and dancing as they sing songs and play games. | Tumbling & Acrobatics for All Ages (youth 8+ and adults) - Maranda and Atticus
| Learn the fundamentals of tumbling, from forward rolls to back flips and acrobatic tricks. This class will help dancers of all styles including hip hop, break dance, modern, and ballet progress in aerial techniques. Acrobatic conditioning will increase strength, balance, flexibility, and agility. Emphasis will be on proper form to ensure a safe and fun class! Saturday 11:00 AM | | | | Age ranges provided above are general guidelines. Exceptions may be made where appropriate. | | | Dress Code Proper dress is important for comfort and safety. Teachers need to be aware of body positioning and form to give proper corrections. Dance wear may be purchased from our studio retail store. Hip Hop, Break Dance, Jazz, Cheerleading - Comfortable, light-weight clothing that is not overly loose or baggy and clean sneakers. Ballet - Leotards, tights, ballet skirts and tutus are acceptable. Ballet shoes. Girls, please tie hair back.
Quarterly Performances Participation is highly encouraged but not mandatory. Purchase of a costume may be necessary. Studio Etiquette 1. No food, gum or drinks in studio. 2. Students must arrive on time and be picked up promptly. 3. Students must stay in building at all times until being picked up. 4. Parents may quietly observe in viewing window outside of classroom as to not be a distraction. | |
