SUNDAY 10:00 AM - 12:00 NOON

Web: http://dancingtogether.org/

Cost     $7 per person, multi-dance cards available.

Description
Leave your shoes off and free your spirit; join the family of dancers known as Dancing Together.  Two-times each weekday evening, the group meets for 2 hours of creative dance.  While dancing "together" in unison and surrounded by other dancers, each dancer creates his or her own style.   Whether you choose to dance with a partner or alone, the music moves the spirit into creating a  dance step unique to each individual. After a warmup of 30-45 minutes, an opening circle is formed to allow the Guides to welcome and orient the dancers.  The Guide may tell a story or create ideas for the listeners to consider during their dance.  Then comes the dance in the form of a wave.  The beginning is slow and easy, soon building to a fast pace, eventually ending in a softening to relaxation.  A circle is then reformed to allow dancers to reveal their experiences if he or she wishes to share.  Last come community announcement.

Description

Come and experience the joy and exhilaration of West African dancing.  Instructor Patricia Jacobs has been a part of the West African drum and dance scene for over 15 years in Austin and has danced with Lannaya and SaKeBo drum and dance companies, six years and two years respectively.  She is also a member of the Djembabes, a popular local women's performance group devoted to African song and rhythms.

Patricia is passionate about West African drum and dance and decided that 2011 was the year to branch out on her own in order to share her passion for this art form that has brought her so much pleasure over the years. She invites beginners of all ages to come out and have the best fun in town dancing to live drumming.  Patricia begins with a good stretch and warmup session accompanied by live drumming followed by a breakdown of steps; then the drummers return to end with the class dancing each step several times across the floor. You'll love the exhilaration of dancing to the rich rhythms of the African drums and you get a great cardio workout too.
